Welcome – Croeso

Welcome to the Lluest Lleyn website.  Established since 1989,  our pedigree flock now totals 900 ewes.  Lluestwen is a 380 acre upland family farm and is situated near Llanbrynmair in Mid Wales which rises between 800-1200 ft above sea level.  We continue to input maximum effort into improving every aspect of our successful flock and always welcome breeders, farmers and visitors to the farm.

Our breeding objective is to maximize returns through increased meat and growth without compromising on the prolificacy and mothering ability that has made the Lleyn sheep so popular.  The flock is primarily managed on a low input system and Dylan takes a great deal of time and care selecting replacement females and rams to ensure that the flock continues to progress in the right direction .  The sheep are kept on permanent pasture with low maintenance and maximum performance being a key driver for our business.

The Lleyn breed above all others is capable of rearing two quality purebred lambs on an upland farm.  These lambs meet both the demands of both pedigree and commercial markets.  The best ewe lambs are retained and the surplus are sold as pedigree breeding stock.  Our main market over recent years is offering top quality breeding rams for sale.  The selection process at Lluestwen is extremely tight where only the absolute best are chosen where they are later inspected by the society before being offered for sale at either society sales, markets or sold from the farm.    Ram lambs not good enough for selection are all sold  as deadweight.

The LLeyn ewe has many advantages being an incredibly good mother, lambs with ease, has plenty of milk  and being medium sized does not require the amount of feed as other breeds.  All in all we are extremely proud and happy with our flock. We continually strive to improve and have embraced many components such as Signet recording to improve EBV’s and provide prospective buyers with the information they require when selecting breeding stock.  We take great pride in producing rams with high carcass and maternal indexes which has proved significantly important with buyers in recent years.

We attend many of the Lleyn Society Sales and for 2013 we plan to have males and females for sale at Exeter, Ruthin, Ross on Wye, Carmarthen, Builth Wells, Carlisle and Skipton.  Sale Dates can be found on the Lleyn Sheep Society website.  We also welcome visitors and prospective buyers to Lluestwen.
